Castlepoint Station
Family Fun Ride

Saturday 20 January 2018

Take up a rare opportunity to explore historic Castlepoint Station this Wellington Anniversary Weekend. Grab the kids and the bikes, and explore this iconic sheep and beef station by biking one of three amazing coastal tracks.

Choose from a 7km short loop; a 14km long loop via the beach or a 20km course option that covers the limed road to Otahome and back.

Bring a picnic and take a break on the Station’s tranquil beach (long and limed road courses only) -  and don’t forget your camera!

All riders must have a reasonable level of fitness and mountain biking ability.

Please note that riders will be unable to enter Castlepoint Station after midday and as this is a working farm must be off the station by 3pm.

Peter Laing Trust

Funds from this event will go to the Peter Laing Memorial Trust. The Trust grants scholarships to Wairarapa people, or people with strong Wairarapa connections who want to work in agriculture. They are designed to help people obtain practical training for entry into the agricultural industry or alternatively, for those commencing their first farm employment and requiring dogs, or specialist equipment such as a saddle.

Peter Laing managed Castlepoint Station for nearly 40 years, from 1954 until his retirement in 1991, earning a reputation over the years as a hardworking, practical man who was also a great visionary in his field. Laing died in 2004, aged 74.
