What's On! Events

Wairarapa hosts some amazing events for Cyclists! There's Cycling Races/Series, Mountain Biking and loads of family friendly events to suit everyone.  Check out the events below and see if there's something for you to get involved in!

Trust House NI Team Series Sept - Nov
Race 1 Sunday 27th September - Alfredton circuit
Race 2 Sunday 4th October - Alfredton - Pongoroa - Alfredton
Race 3 Sunday 25th October - Teams Time Trial & Criterium
Race 4 Sunday 8th November - Rangitumau - Mauriceville circuit
Race 5 Sunday 29th November - Masterton - Bideford - Dryers Rock - Masterton

There are 5 races in the Trust House North Island Team Series. 
The 2020 line up includes new circuits. Four category grades. Teams can be male, female or mixed

Green Jersey National Headwind Cycling Championship!
Sunday 27th September (subject to change)
​"I love a good headwind!" Exclaimed no cyclist ever!
Here is your chance to show yourself as part of the Green Jersey Explorer Tours New Zealand National Headwind Cycling Championships. To be held on a Sunday among the Equinoctial Gales.
The next Sunday where windspeeds are forecast to exceed 10m/s we will bring it! And apparently Sunday 27th September is it! And yes you'll be wearing a helmet!

Greater Welly Bike Festival
1-31 October 2020
A celebration of cycling this Region wide Festival will encourage people to get on their bikes, give biking a go and let kids have loads of fun while building skills.  Events vary throughout the Region - Wairarapa list of events are included below and keep growing! GWBF Leaders lead Rides
October 2020
Join some of our local leaders/councillors for a ride to celebrate the Greater Welly Bike Festival. Please note these are organised rides only and all road code rules are required to be followed.
We will update links below to local rides as they are organised:
Carterton: Thursday 1st October 9.30am meet at Carterton Events Centre, Holloway Street and take a cycle with Mayor Greg Lang, Deputy Mayor Rebecca Vergunst and other councillors. More info here

Carrington Park Family Bike Day
Sat 3rd October 2020 11am-2pm
Join us for a fun filled few hours at this one-off event.  Starting with the official opening of the Carrington Park Lions Cycle Skills Track at 11am, Children can have fun navigating the skills track, and continue onto the rodeo obstacle course set up on the basketball court. And if that's not exciting enough, come with colourful decorated bikes to enter the "colour ya bike" competition being held at 12.30pm with local judges and prizes for "most colourful" and "judges choice" in ages 1-6yrs and 7yrs+ categories. The Lions Hot Food Truck and candyfloss will be there to purchase some goodies.

Of course there has to be something for the "big kids" amongst us with adult ebike tasters around the Carrington circuit track where just by giving it a go you can enter to win your very own e-bike as part of the region wide Festival!  For more details and cancellation notifications check out the FB event here

​Rivenrock Mtb Park Opening for Season
Rivenrock is planning to open for the season on 3rd October, 2020. There's even a new Grade 3 trail opening called Corona-Coaster. Head to their FB page for more details here

"Stay Rad" BMX have a go Day
Sat 10th October 2020 11am-2pm
Come along to this event hosted by the Central Wairarapa BMX Club, Huri Huri and Masterton District Council! Suitable ages 4+, it's all about giving it a go, and enjoying this fabulous track that has had a revamp thanks to the club.  Enjoy a sausage sizzle for just a gold coin.
Spot prizes to be won just register at the Huri Huri Flag!
Bring a safe bike (bmx, mountain/trail, or even strider), helmets must be worn. All children must be supervised by an adult.

ACM Club Race Nights
Every Tuesday throughout the summer from starting October. Starts at 6pm.
Organised by Athletics Cycling Masterton (ACM).  
Spectators are welcome to check out the routes and take a look at these regular races.

Spring Biathlon Series
Every Thursday from October through to December.
Organised by Wairarapa Multi-sports Club. Get fit for summer and take part over the 9 weeks - either as an individual or a team. 5km run followed by a 20km road cycle. Meet at 5.45pm at Men’s Shed, Henley Lake, Masterton. ​

Organised by Wellington Masters Cycling Club
With a large field  of  riders sent off in waves, this would be a great opportunity to head out and see some action! Check out the route, plan a spot to watch and support the riders - they will love it!

Walk or Wheel to School Week
19th-24th October 2020
WoW to School Week is a free, fun, week-long celebration for students similar to Movin'March.
All Wellington region schools are invited to join in this spring active travel campaign.
If your school is on board, contact GWRC on schooltravel@gw.govt.nz to arrange great prizes and passport cards for students taking part!
Students can take part individually or as a school or group.
School participation in WoW to School Week enhances sustainability curriculum, builds community, and highlights the benefits of active transportation - like less congestion and healthy, energised students.
